Causes of Drain and Sewer Blockages

Here are the main causes of drain and sewer blockages:

  1. Slow drainage: If you notice water draining slowly in your sinks, bathtub, or
  2. toilet, it could be a sign of a clogged sewer drain.
  3. Gurgling sounds: Unusual gurgling or bubbling noises coming from your drains or toilet when using water fixtures can indicate a clog in the sewer line.
  4. Foul odors: Persistent unpleasant smells, like sewage or rotting food, emanating from your drains or plumbing fixtures may indicate a clogged sewer drain.
  5. Backups or overflows: Sewage backups or water overflows from drains, toilets, or other plumbing fixtures are clear indications of a clogged sewer drain.
  6. Multiple clogs: If you have multiple drains in your home experiencing simultaneous clogs, it suggests a clog in the main sewer line.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s essential to address the issue promptly to prevent further damage and restore proper sewer drain function. Consulting a professional, such as Aquatech Waterproofing, can help diagnose and resolve the clogged sewer drain effectively.

What Are The Dangers of Blocked Sewer Drains?

A clogged sewer drain can lead to a range of problems, including:

  1. Backed-up sewage: A clog in the sewer drain can cause sewage to back up into your home or property, resulting in unsanitary conditions and potential health hazards.
  2. Foul odors: The accumulation of waste and debris in a clogged sewer drain can emit unpleasant odors, permeating your living spaces and causing discomfort.
  3. Water damage: When sewage cannot flow freely through the drains, it can cause water to back up and overflow, leading to water damage in your basement, walls, and other areas of your property.
  4. Pipe damage: Persistent clogs and increased pressure in the sewer drains can put stress on the pipes, leading to cracks, leaks, or even pipe bursts, requiring costly repairs.
  5. Pest infestation: Clogged sewer drains can attract pests, such as insects and rodents, seeking a source of food and shelter, further compromising the cleanliness and hygiene of your home.

Addressing clogged sewer drains promptly is crucial to prevent problems and maintain a functioning plumbing system. Professional sewer drain cleaning services, like Aquatech Waterproofing, can effectively clear clogs and restore optimal wastewater flow, reducing the risks of clogged sewer drains.

Aquatech was wonderful right from the first contact to having Richard come out and give us a very complete and detailed quote to the two man crew who were here exactly on time and completed the day hours ahead of time. All the locates were taken care of and within a week of contacting them the job was completed. The workman did a fabulous job and were very respectful of our property. They reviewed the scope of the work before they started and asked if we had any questions. When the work was complete it was difficult to see where they had worked and dug the trench. Everything was tidier than before they started. We are very impressed and in a world where household repair companies can be less than favourable, Aquatech stands head and shoulders above any of them. We would highly recommend this company. We also have a life time transferable warranty too. Bravo. We will definitely be telling all the people we know about our wonderful experience. Thank you.

How To Maintain Proper Drainage?

To maintain proper drainage and keep your plumbing system operating effectively, here are five essential tips for drain maintenance:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean your drains to prevent debris buildup and clogs. You can use drain cleaners or natural solutions like baking soda and vinegar to maintain a smooth flow.
  2. Use Drain Screens: Install drain screens or strainers to catch hair, soap residue, and other debris before they enter the drain. Remember to empty the screens regularly to prevent clogs.
  1. Mindful Waste Disposal: Dispose of waste materials such as food scraps and cooking grease properly. Avoid flushing non-biodegradable items or pouring grease down the sink, as they can lead to clogs and blockages.
  2. Outdoor Drain Maintenance: Keep outdoor drains clear of leaves, dirt, and debris. Regularly clean the surrounding area to prevent blockages caused by natural debris or vegetation.
  3. Professional Maintenance: Schedule regular inspections and drain cleaning with a professional plumbing company. They have the expertise to identify potential issues, check for leaks, and provide necessary repairs to keep your drainage system in optimal condition.

By following these maintenance practices, you can prevent clogs, maintain a smooth water flow, and ensure the longevity of your drainage system. Regular attention and care will help you avoid plumbing disruptions and keep your drains functioning efficiently.

Drain Cleaning$100 to $250 for standard drain cleaning; up to $550 for more complex blockages or repairs

Our Sewer Drain Cleaning Process

At Aquatech Waterproofing, we utilize advanced techniques for cleaning sewer drains, ensuring effective and thorough results. Here are the techniques we use:

  1. Drainage Snaking: Our highly skilled technicians at Aquatech Waterproofing utilize the power of drainage snaking to effectively unblock clogged sewer drains. This technique involves the use of a long pipe equipped with metal-tipped cutters and rotary blades. These cutters bore into the clogging materials within the pipe, breaking them apart and clearing the passage for proper flow. By employing this method, we can efficiently resolve sewer drain blockages and restore optimal drainage.
  1. CCTV Camera Inspection: In situations where the source of the clog is not easily identifiable, we rely on the precision of CCTV camera inspection. We insert a small camera into the sewer pipe to visually examine the interior and accurately locate the exact position of the clogs, blocks, or tree roots. This thorough inspection allows us to identify the underlying issue with precision, enabling us to determine the most appropriate course of action. With CCTV camera inspection, we can diagnose sewer drain problems more effectively and provide targeted solutions for our clients.

By combining these techniques, we can effectively clean and restore sewer drains, ensuring optimal performance and preventing future clogs. Our experienced team at Aquatech Waterproofing is trained to handle a wide range of sewer drain cleaning scenarios, providing reliable and efficient solutions for our clients.

FAQs About Sewer And Drain Cleaning

Using chemical drain cleaners to clear a clogged drain is not recommended. They can damage pipes, pose safety risks, and provide only temporary relief. Mechanical methods like plungers or drain snakes, or professional plumbing assistance, are safer and more effective options.
It is recommended to have a professional drain cleaning service every 1-2 years to prevent major clogs and maintain optimal drain performance. The frequency of professional drain cleaning also depends on various factors, such as the age of your plumbing system, the number of occupants in your home, and any recurring drainage issues.
If you experience a recurring drain clog, it is recommended to contact a professional plumber. Recurring drain clogs could indicate a more significant underlying issue with your plumbing system that requires expert assessment and repair. A professional plumber can identify the root cause of the recurring clogs and provide a long-lasting solution to prevent future blockages.
Tree roots infiltrating sewer lines is a common cause of clogged drains. As they grow, the roots can block the flow of wastewater, leading to clogs and potential pipe damage. Professional drain cleaning services can address tree root intrusion through root cutting or pipe repairs to restore proper drainage.
Sewer line cleaning typically involves using professional-grade augers or high-pressure water jetting tools to clear obstructions and accumulated debris in the sewer pipes. A camera inspection might precede the cleaning to identify the location and nature of the blockage.
Regular maintenance, including professional inspections and clean-outs, can keep a sewer line clean. Avoid flushing anything other than waste and toilet paper, and consider adding enzyme-based cleaners to break down potential clogs from fats, oils, and grease.
Unclogging a sewer main often requires a plumber to use a motorized drain auger (also known as a sewer snake) that cuts through and removes the blockage. For more severe clogs, hydro jetting might be used, which is a process that uses high-pressure water streams to flush out blockages.
